Near the end of the life of President Gordon B. Hinckley I decided to read his biography. I enjoyed learning in detail about the life of President Hinckley. I finished the book wanting more. So I then decided to read the biography of President Hunter. I finished that book still wanting more. At that point I decided over time I would read each biography of the modern day prophets in reverse order. President Benson's biography was followed by President Kimball's which I just finished.
I recently heard a quote by Professor Curtis LeBaron of Brigham Young University in which he states:
The best way to learn leadership is to work closely with a great leader
and to carefully watch what he or she does across a variety of
circumstances because we tend to become like the people we attend. If
working closely with someone is not possible then I encourage students
to read the autobiographies and biographies of great leaders because
stories keep the lessons of leadership alive.
By actively reading about these incredible men that carried that heavy mantel you learn a lot about how to improve yourself as a leader. Leadership is not defined by how to preside but rather how you show love to those you lead when all eyes are not on you. As I enjoyed the variety of stories from these biographies different promptings came to mind of how I could become a better leader myself.
Go to your local Deseret Industries or library and dive into these stories from the lives of prophets. It will make you a better leader.
