LeadingLDS is a community of Latter-Day Saints that deal with leadership challenges as they strive to build the Kingdom of God in the last days. Many LDS leaders have very little experience or training and make mistakes in their effort to do what they think is best. Others use their experience to run a successful ward or stake. As an authorized leader in the LDS church you have different powers and resources to help execute your duties. These would include the scriptures, personal revelation, and church handbooks. The LDS Church handbooks help provide consistency among the church and to guide leaders as they are faced with difficult policy decisions. LeadingLDS is not trying to interject or add to these inspired resources. Church sponsored resources should be the primary resource in solving leadership issues in the church.

Any bookstore will have shelves full of leadership books that teach skills of effective communication, organization tactics, human nature, influential skills, recognition benefits, presentation skills, body language, leadership research studies–just to list a few. However, the majority of these books are written in the secular or business context. LeadingLDS is a resource to help with these organic leadership skills as relating to the LDS church setting. What if we took the wisdom from these secular resources and tried to apply them to the LDS world? What problem would we solve? What ideas would be created that could help move this sacred work forward?

LDS leaders are faced with problems relating to home/visiting teaching, activation, missionary work, class participation, and many more. It’s time we consider applying established research and innovative ideas in order to find fresh ideas for these perpetual problems. By doing so it will help leaders approach problems differently. There are also leaders that are currently over-coming problems with ideas that could be shared with the masses. We must find those LDS leaders and invite them to share. We encourage all to share ideas and strategies that have brought success in your respective ward or stake.

Whether you are called to preside over meetings or vacuum cereal off benches LeadingLDS is for you. Regardless of your calling all are leaders in the church through example and fellowship.

For those not familiar with the LDS Church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is run on a lay ministry. Those that lead the congregations and groups within the church are everyday people that had no idea or ambition to obtain such a responsibility. Most that lead in the church had no formal training. Church callings or responsibilities last for a few month or many years. Many that serve have a full-time career and a families to nurture while also giving time to leading individuals in the LDS church. This site is not sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. To learn more about the basic beliefs of the LDS church please visit www.mormon.org or www.lds.org
